Society Hill Rowhouse

Living room: Society Hill, Philadelphia Whole House Remodel

Livingroom

With parts of the house dating back to the 18th century, this rowhouse came to us with some charm and some challenges. It had been remodeled last in the 1980’s and everything needed updating. The bulk of the work happened in the kitchen and bathrooms, but throughout the house flooring was updated, molding was added and everything got a fresh coat of paint. The kitchen is in the oldest part of the house and the scale steps down accordingly. The old kitchen felt small and dark, so the task was to lighten it up, and find a way to fit in the island the clients wanted for prep space. The cabinets and surfaces are bright but warm. The blue island in the center, handmade backsplash tiles and fireclay farm sink give it a character that is in keeping with the house but reflective of the young family that lives here. The 3 ½ existing bathrooms in the house were all fully remodeled, which included reorganizing the 3rd floor and moving the kid’s bath, and adding a salvaged mantle and tile to a hidden firebox we found behind the drywall in the master bath. The design on this home was a collaborative effort, with our team designing the kitchen, bathrooms, den, guest and kid’s room, and Michele Plachter Design coming up with the plan for the first floor and master bedroom.

“We feel so lucky to have found Buckminster Green to work on our house. Buckminster Green recently finished a complete renovation of our 215 year-old row house in Society Hill. From start to finish, they were consummate professionals and a real pleasure to work with. Kenny, Scott, and their team are a group of smart, creative, and efficient contractors. Bronwyn with Buckminster Green provided the design for the bathrooms and kitchen, and helped us select all finishes throughout. Their work was completed on time and on budget, and with a high level of workmanship. Whether they were moving along as planned, or encountering unforeseen issues inherent to a historic renovation, working with them was truly an enjoyable experience. The job site was clean and organized, their workers were friendly, and communication was timely. They moved quickly to accommodate our requests, and resolved punch list items immediately upon project completion. We did not know it was possible to enjoy working with a contractor this much. We enthusiastically recommend them without hesitation. Thank you for creating our dream home, Buckminster Green!”
